Με την υποστήριξη της Eurojust και της Europol, οι Γαλλικές αρχές, σε συνεργασία με τη Λετονία και την Ισπανία, ανέλαβαν δράση κατά μιας ομάδας οργανωμένου εγκλήματος που χρησιμοποιούσε κακόβουλο λογισμικό για την αντιγραφή κλειδιών και την κλοπή αυτοκινήτων στη Γαλλία.
Σε μια συντονισμένη δράση που πραγματοποιήθηκε στις τρεις εμπλεκόμενες χώρες, συνελήφθησαν τριάντα ένας ύποπτοι και ερευνήθηκαν είκοσι δύο τοποθεσίες.
Το εργαλείο, το οποίο διατίθετο στην αγορά ως διαγνωστική λύση για αυτοκίνητα (automotive diagnostic solution), ήταν σε θέση να αντικαταστήσει το αρχικό λογισμικό των οχημάτων δύο συγκεκριμένων Γάλλων κατασκευαστών. Οι δράστες της απάτης ενημέρωναν και προσάρμοζαν συνεχώς το λογισμικό τους, για να εξουδετερώσουν τα μέτρα που εφαρμόζουν οι εταιρείες για την ενίσχυση της ασφάλειας των οχημάτων τους.
Περισσότερα από 100 εκατομμύρια ευρώ, καθώς και 12 τραπεζικοί λογαριασμοί, ακίνητα και 3 πολυτελή αυτοκίνητα κατασχέθηκαν στη Γαλλία, καθώς και το domain name του ιστότοπου.
